Day 1 – Cape Naturaliste to Mt Duckworth

Got the to lighthouse and started walking at 3:30pm on Thurs 27th March 2025. Although I expected to walk into the night, I’m glad I didn’t leave any earlier in the day as it was still 30 degrees at 4pm. Max temp today 34 and WA is coming off the back of a Heat wave. Cooler temps predicted. Not a drop of wind and the stillness and quiet was a bit eerie after the bustle of city and travel. Walked along rugged coast line for 3hrs including a short beach walk where plenty of surfers were enjoying the breaks. While it felt remote, there was a road only a few hundred meters inland, mainly for the surfers.Beautiful sunset as I got into camp right as the sun went down. Skipped dinner as I had late food at town, just dessert and milo. Feet cramping a little in the joggers.

Day 2 – Duckworth to Moses Rock

Woke up late after a hot still night where I also discovered by trusty Sea2Summit air mattress had developed a slow leak requiring multiple re-inflations during the night. After breakfast, a warm day as I set out towards Yallingup. Upon arriving it turned out to be quite a sizable town with a coffee shop near the beach. A croissant and coffee later, I bought a 1.5 Litre water for $10 and pushed on. Later, I would wish I’d bought two as water refill points were non-existent.Stunning coastline and pristine beaches with beautiful blue water particularly around Injidup beach. The promised 25 degree max didn’t materialize, rather it felt like 30 degrees and I was feeling dehydrated. Stopped for lunch for an hour to start Walking at 3pm again to avoid some of the heat. Rationed water to not run out before camp. Arrived Moses rock campsite at 6pm. Met Jock and Louise.Discovered I only had 5 puritabs left so will need to boil water instead. Hoping to buy more bottled water at Gracetown.More re-inflations of the mattress required as I can’t find the slow leak.

Day 3 – Moses Rock to Ellensbrook

Start 8:30amArrive Gracetown around 11amSwim in ocean and shower – feeling refreshed.Gracetown General Store – immediately bought 2x 1.5L cold water bottles and juice. Feeling dehydrated and too hot. So grateful for cold water and cold bottle to cool me down. The Apple Berry juice was delicious. I went on to buy cheese and bacon sausage roll, another 1.5L cold water and 2x apple berry juice.Rested and left Gracetown around 3pm for last stretch to Ellensbrook.Walking inland mostly. Arrived at Ellensbrook homestead and got a bit lost due to mis-placing camp marker on the map. Did an extra 1km going back and forth. Found camp and met Jock and Louise again. Had extensive conversations around hiking, covid etc etc. Louise was the double-bass player for the Western Australian Symphony Orchestra. Lost her job due to mandates. Still struggling a lot.

Day 4 – Ellensbrook to Prevelly

Slept late and left camp at 10:30am after breakfast and coffee. A clap of thunder and it threatened to rain, however nothing materialized. Another hot day with exposed walking. No water anxiety today as I had bought an extra 1.5L water with me totalling 4L.I took the chance that the Margaret River mouth would be passable due to it being the dry season. Arrived at the river mouth 1pm and easy access.I decided to stay at the river mouth and use the river water to check air mattress for leaks (and also have a swim). Found one leak which was successfully patched but it seemed their was also a valve leak. Plenty of tourists and Swimmers at this point. Never appreciated a cold beach shower as I did here. Gave clothes and everything a good wash. Still very hot so rested until 3 pm and then walked over the hill into Prevelly to the Caravan Park. Got allocated a site right next to the road. Toilet and showers poor quality. When early to the Sea Garden Cafe and bought pizza and lemon lime bitters. A shift to the dining out experience.

Day 5 – Prevelly to Conto

I discovered my second 10,000Ah power bank was completely dead and broken..Suddenly I had a power crisis as I was only half thru the hike and almost entirely reliant on my phone for maps, GPS, clock as well as a need to organize taxi and bus at the end of the walk. After bacon, eggs and coffee at the Sea Garden Cafe again, they very kindly let me charge my phone. I sat for 3 hours until phone fully charged and the manager kindly gave me the AC charger as well which would prove essential later on.At 2pm, with strict phone usage rationing, and high temps around 32 degrees, I set out to Conto. A lot of bush track inland walking for a lot of this day which provided some shade. Before leaving Prevelly I also tried to buy more water to increase my water capacity. Unfortunately the general store had lost power and closed. Fortunately the lady had pity on me and sold me a 1.5L bottle for cash.Arrived Conto campsite right on dark after a beautiful sunset over the water. Very large campsite and a bit expensive at $20 for a national park camp.

Day 6 – Conto to Havelin Bay

Breakfast and on the track at 9:30. Most mornings have been late starts.Again the first half of the day was inland bush tracks. A lot of forest walking until a turn back down to the beach. Met a local school group who were doing a couple of days hiking. Talked to teacher. Blisters on left foot giving a lot of pain and also the toe tendon on the right foot almost disabling me. Fortunately the feet didn’t mind the beach walking which was for 6km into a stiff southern headwind. Nearly caught the school group but they got to Havelin Bay campground before me. Decided to stay the night at the caravan park due to my sore feet and also to have some phone charge. Grateful for the AC adaptor from Prevelly Cafe. Kiosk was a complete ripoff for chips and drink but no choices. Saw stingray.Toilets and Showers high quality. $35 for powered site.

Day 7 – Havelin Bay to Deepdine

9:30am start up and over the headland. Caught up with school group again at Fowl Bay lighthouse. Fortunately checked my phone and had to deal with major FuneralSoft software issue.Mostly up and down on sandy tracks until Cosy Cove Rd. The school group finished their walk here. The blow holes after this were quite impressive. After a couple more bays and headlands, out onto Deepdine beach. Debated walking the remaining 17km today but decided to rest the feet. 500m along the beach and the into the scrub 600m to arrive Deepdine campsite at 2pm. Nothing to do, not even my pen worked so had an afternoon sleep. Have been carrying 4L of water so no lack.Very quiet. Mozzies atrocious as the sun set. At 7pm a lady called Ruth popped into camp. She had walked the 30km from Conto and miscalculated the distance.Spaghetti Bolognase for dinner.Air mattress still slow leaking, likely a value leak.

Day 8 – Deepdine to Cape Leewin
